Kew Boulevard ITT 24-05-2009

Time Trial Series Kicks Off Strongly - The first of five time-trial events posted a season-opening record on Sunday, with almost 100 competitors representing ten Victorian Clubs, with a healthy contingent from the Northern Combine posting excellent results. A well-behaved field enjoyed the benefits of a large proportion of pre-entries, to ensure prompt and clear notification of their race-time. Riders appreciated this certainty, and used the pre-race window to warm-up and prepare themselves for what is known as the "Test of Truth" - a very personal race, against the clock. Accordingly, results for all grades indicated significant improvements on last years times. Only two seconds separated Hawthorn duo Shane Miller and Jono Lovelock at the head of A-Grade, while another great result was posted by Blackburn youngster Alex Morgan, well clear of the B-Grade field. With the June ITT being held at Melbourne's iconic Hill-Climb venue (The 1-in-20 course at The Basin) cyclists will be able to "bookend" their road season, and gauge their improvement in hill-climbing, by competing in the season-closer in late September. Numbers at the 2008 ITT Series grew steadily with each race, and organisers strongly encourage competitors to pre-enter each event, which guarantees a seeded place in the appropriate grade.

They're run by Blackburn (www.blackburncycling.org.au) 10km per lap, so 20kms for A and B. No womens or masters category this year, they're running A through to E.
