33rd Preston Mountain Classic Handicap 23-05-2009

Its a little time consuming typing up every race and every detail these days, lots of racing, lots of typing... and not much return of interest on the blog side of things. I'll post detailed reports here and there from now on, but for now I'll leave it to the official reports...

Limit rider (25 minutes) Steven Drake (Blackburn CC) has taken out the Preston Mountain Classic in near perfect conditions in Broadford on Saturday.

Over 230 riders contested the 33rd edition of the Classic presented by the Preston Cycling Club, with the Elite Men covering the 125km course and the Masters and Women a shorter 82km.

Both courses would start and finish in Broadford, with the mens event taking in two tough climbs, firstly over Break O'Day and then to Strath Creek for the second climb.

In the Men's event, Drake held off a fast finishing bunch featuring numerous scratch riders which had caught the leading group in the final stages of the race.

Warrnambool's Glenn Scouller (25 minutes) claimed second place, with scratch rider Dylan Newell (Brunswick CC) taking third place place and fastest time overall (2hr 45min 10sec).

Patrick Lane (Carnegie-Caulfield CC) was the first U19 rider to finish in seventh overall.

In the other events, Hawthorn pair Byron Davy and Jessica Sloane took the honours in the Masters and Womens events respectively. Fellow club member Shane Miller (Scratch) took out fastest time honours 1hr 52min 49sec.
